Window Tinting in Whalley Range: Large Victorian Villas, Big Bays and Converted Flats
We supply and fit window tinting in Whalley Range, from a single bathroom window to a full shopfront, using film made for the glass and the job. Film goes on the inside of the glass you already have, so there is no replacement glazing and the frames are untouched.
A typical house takes a day, and we clear up as we go. The fitters are our own employees and DBS checked. We are regularly in Chorlton, Moss Side and Rusholme, and anywhere else in Greater Manchester.

Window tinting in Whalley Range: the local picture
Whalley Range is a suburb of big Victorian villas, many of them divided into flats, with deep bays, tall windows and generous front rooms that catch the sun. It is a lot of glass, much of it old.
Start with the problem in Whalley Range
Bays, converted flats and old glass
Large bays are the main event: big panes in direct sun, with the carpet and furniture suffering. A near-clear or light neutral film cuts the heat and the UV without altering the look of the house. Converted flats raise a second question, which is who owns the glass. If the building is leasehold, ask the freeholder or managing agent first, and we supply technical data to help.

- Flats behind one front door
- Many villas are converted into several flats behind a single frontage. If you rent or lease, the freeholder usually decides what goes on the glass, so we supply the data sheet, insurance details and a plain description of the work for them to approve.
- Original sashes and tall bays
- The tall sash windows and deep bays are the character of these houses. We cut film to each pane, choose films that suit older, thinner glass and favour near-clear finishes so the front of the building looks the same from the street.
- Bays that face the road
- The big front bays on Whalley Range's villas look straight onto leafy streets. Daytime privacy from one-way film is usually the aim, with the film continuing across every pane of the bay so the front of the house still looks even.
Pricing a job in Whalley Range
The rate is per square metre of glass: entry-level film starts at about £60 and Solar Gard at £95, with the fitting included. To put numbers on it, a bathroom window of about 0.6 m² would start at £35 (entry-level) or £55 (Solar Gard). For three-panel patio doors, around 6 m², think £360 to £570. For the front windows of a typical house, around 10 m², think £600 to £950.
A visit to measure up is free, and the quote is a single fixed figure. Your figure will depend on pane sizes, access and film choice, and we are happy to show how each changes it. Premium 3M film starts at £300 per square metre and suits glass that has to stay clear, such as period frontages. A comparable job is our Withington one. Rough figures for other jobs are on the window film prices page.
Whalley Range window film questions
Can film go on old sash windows?
Yes. Each pane is cut and fitted separately. The film stops at the glazing bars, and we choose a film that suits the glass. Film on the inside of the glass is reversible, and a near-clear or light neutral film changes the look of a building far less than a reflective one. We advise at the survey on anything that may need consent.
Do I need permission for a flat?
If you lease it, ask your managing agent. External glass often belongs to the freeholder. Listed status and conservation areas can restrict visible changes. Film on the inside is reversible and usually easier to agree, and a near-clear film is much less noticeable than a mirror finish, so we start there and advise you to check with the council where a building is protected.
Will window film damage my windows?
Properly specified film is safe on most glass. On older glass, which can be thinner or single glazed, choosing a low-absorption film matters even more. Because some films absorb heat, we check glass type, pane size and shade at the survey and choose a film that reflects more and absorbs less where there is a risk. If a pane is not suitable, we tell you.
Which film is best for keeping a room cool?
Choose solar control film. It comes as reflective, light neutral and near-clear premium versions, and the right one depends on the room, how much sun it gets and how it should look. West and south-facing glass gains most. We hold samples against your windows at the hottest time of day so you can compare.
