Merseyside: the glass we see and what it needs
Merseyside is a county of water. The Mersey runs through the middle, the Dee estuary and the Irish Sea frame the Wirral and Sefton, and the light off all of it shapes what glass needs. There are waterfront apartments and listed dock warehouses in Liverpool, estuary-facing houses in Heswall and West Kirby, seaside terraces and villas in Southport, and, in St Helens, the town that made its name from glass.
This page is the county starting point: what the work looks like across Merseyside, which of our jobs are near you and where to find your own town.
Do you cover my part of Merseyside?
Yes. We cover the whole county, from Southport in the north to the Wirral in the west and St Helens and Knowsley in the east. Our published jobs so far are in St Helens and Knowsley, with more to come across Liverpool and the coast, and the survey, samples and fixed price work the same everywhere.
Four kinds of Merseyside glass
Liverpool city centre
Waterfront and dock-side apartments, listed warehouse conversions, offices and bars. Consent and managing-agent permission matter as much as the film.
The Wirral and the Dee
Houses and flats facing the estuary and the sea. Low sun off the water, big west-facing windows and views to keep.
Sefton and the seaside
Southport's Victorian streets and Lord Street, Formby's villages and Crosby's coast. Hotels, shops, bungalows and villas.
St Helens and Knowsley
Industrial sites, business parks and the ordinary houses of an inland borough. Our published jobs are here.

Water, light and what it does to glass
Coastal and estuary light is stronger than inland light, because it comes from the sky and again from below, off the water and the sand. A south or west-facing window on the Wirral or the Sefton coast takes a lot of sun, and low evening sun off the sea is a particular problem for sitting rooms. A light neutral solar film evens the light out without darkening the room, and one-way film adds daytime privacy where a promenade or road runs past the front.
Film goes on the inside of the glass, so sea air and salt do not reach it.
Listed buildings, conservation areas and apartments
Liverpool and the coastal towns have a great many listed and protected buildings, from Albert Dock to the Georgian streets and the Victorian villas of Birkenhead and Southport. Film on the inside is reversible and often needs no consent, but a reflective finish that changes how a building looks from outside may need it, and a listed building needs checking first. In apartment blocks, the glass usually belongs to the freeholder, so ask the managing agent before you book. We supply the technical data and a description of the work to help.

Can film go on a Liverpool apartment?
Usually, with the managing agent's agreement. We supply technical data and a description of the work. Light neutral films that sit inside the glass are the easiest to approve.
Does sea air damage film?
No. The film is on the inside of the glass. Film is applied to the inside of the glass, so weather, spray, salt and sand do not reach it. What matters is the glass itself and how much sun it takes, which we check at the survey. Film on a sea-facing window lasts as long as film anywhere else.
Do I need consent for a listed building?
A reflective film that changes the appearance may need it. A near-clear film changes the look far less. Film on the inside of the glass is reversible and often needs no consent, but a reflective finish that changes how a building looks from outside may need it, and a listed building needs checking first. A near-clear or light neutral film changes the look far less. We advise at the survey and supply the technical data and a description of the work.
What does it cost?
Entry-level film starts at about £60 per square metre, Solar Gard at £95 and 3M at £300. See our window film prices. The final figure depends on the glass area, the access needed and the film you choose, and we fix it in writing after a free survey, so there are no surprises.
Where can I see your work near me?
The table above links to the jobs in each area, and our work page has them all. Each job page has photos, the film used, the type of glass and what the customer wanted, so you can compare with your own windows. If you would like to see film on real glass before deciding, we also bring samples to the survey and hold them against your own windows.
How long does window tinting take?
Most homes and shops are done in a day or less, and larger commercial jobs are planned in stages around your hours. We confirm the time in the quote.
Why use a specialist window film fitter?
Window film is a specialist trade. Strong sea light shows up every flaw in a film, so a clean, well-finished edge matters more near the coast. Film cut to the pane and applied wet in a clean way has no bubbles, creases or gaps and is warranted, whereas a poor DIY job is hard to remove. Our fitters are employed by us, and insured, and fit film every day.
Which areas of Merseyside do you cover?
We cover the whole of Merseyside, from the larger towns and city centres to villages and rural properties. Choose your town in the list above to see local jobs and what we fit near you, or tell us the address and we will confirm. The survey is free wherever you are.
