A top floor made of glass
A penthouse has the most sun in the building. This one has floor-to-ceiling windows along the roof terrace and glazed doors out onto it, so the lounge takes sun at full strength with nothing above to shade it.
Apartments like this are built for views and light. They are less good at staying comfortable in them, and there is only so much a blind can do when the glass is full height.
Reflective solar film along the terrace
The full-height glazing and the terrace doors got a reflective solar film. It sends much of the sun back before it gets into the apartment, and keeps a good view out over the terrace and city.
At an angle the glass is reflective, as the exterior photos show. Straight on, and from the terrace, the lounge is still visible, so this is a heat and glare film first and a privacy film second.
Worth knowing: In a building with a managing agent or freeholder, film on external glazing can need consent. We can send technical details so the request is simple to make.
After · InsideFitting full-height glass indoors
Floor-to-ceiling panes are tall, so we worked from inside the apartment, cleaning each pane and running the film the full height of the glass so there are no horizontal joins across the view. A step ladder visible in one of the photos gives you a sense of the heights involved.
The finish along the bottom edge and at the frames matters most here, because with full-height glass there is nowhere for a poorly trimmed edge to hide.
A calmer lounge
Inside, the lounge now has a controlled amount of light, with the terrace and sky still on show through tinted glass. Outside, the terrace glazing reads as a smooth, slightly mirrored run of panes.
No blinds were added and nothing in the glazing was replaced.

AfterQuestions about film on apartment windows
Do I need permission to film my apartment windows?
If you own the apartment on a lease, the external glass is often the freeholder's, so ask your managing agent first. We can supply the film's technical data and a description of the work to make the request simple.
Will film change how the building looks from outside?
It can, particularly a reflective film, which is why some blocks have rules about it. We can suggest a more neutral film where uniformity matters.
Can you film floor-to-ceiling glass?
Yes. Tall panes are filmed in full-height lengths so there are no horizontal joins across the view. We check the glass type and the building's access before quoting.
