Window tinting across Cumbria: the local picture
Cumbria is the largest and furthest part of the area we cover, and we say so plainly. We have not yet published a job in the county, and the distance means travel is part of the price. But there is a lot of glass in Cumbria that film suits well: holiday lets and second homes in the Lakes, stone houses and barn conversions in the Eden Valley and the South Lakes, hotels and guest houses, shops in market towns and the industry of the west coast and Furness.
This page explains how we approach the county, and what the work looks like in each part of it.
Do you cover Cumbria, and what does travel cost?
Yes. We cover the whole county, from Carlisle in the north to Barrow in the south, and from Appleby in the east to Whitehaven on the coast. Travel is shown clearly in the quote, and larger jobs are planned over a few days so a visit is worth the journey. Grouping jobs, such as several rooms, several units or neighbouring properties, brings the cost per job down. We survey first, bring samples and fix the price in writing.
Four kinds of Cumbrian glass
Holiday lets and second homes
Cottages and houses in the Lakes that stand empty for weeks. UV protection for what is inside, security film on doors, and privacy and darkness for guests.
Stone houses and barn conversions
Big windows in thick walls across the Eden Valley and South Lakes. Light and near-clear films that keep the view and the look.
Hotels, guest houses and shops
Tourism and market-town trade. Blackout and frosted film for bedrooms, UV for displays, glare off the lakes for dining rooms.
Industry and the coast
Carlisle's business parks, west-coast ports and the Furness shipyard supply chain. One-way film on reception glass and site offices.
Cumbria by area
What we are asked for most in each part of the county. We have not yet published a job in Cumbria, so the most useful comparisons are our barn-conversion and hillside-lodge jobs elsewhere.

Empty homes and holiday lets
A holiday cottage or second home is a house that is empty for much of the year, with its curtains drawn or open and its contents exposed to the sun. UV through the glass fades floors, furniture and fabrics, and a clear UV film slows it at a small cost. Security film on doors and ground-floor glass adds a little resistance to a quick forced entry. And for the guests, frosted or blackout film gives privacy and dark bedrooms without relying on curtains that may not meet. See UV protection film, security film and blackout film.
Lake District consents
Much of Cumbria is in the Lake District National Park, which has its own planning authority, and many of its towns and villages are conservation areas. Film on the inside is reversible and often needs no consent, but a reflective finish that changes how a building looks from outside may. A near-clear or light neutral film changes the look far less, and we say at the survey whether we think the authority is likely to ask.
Comparable jobs
We have not yet published a job in Cumbria. These are the closest comparisons we have for the kind of building you will find there: a barn conversion with a double-height glazed screen, a hillside lodge with moor views, a barn-style house with arched windows and a school with old and new glass.

Do you cover Cumbria?
Yes, the whole county. Travel is shown clearly in the quote. Cumbria is the furthest part of our area, so we are open about how it works: travel is shown clearly in the quote, larger jobs are planned over a few days and grouping rooms, units or neighbouring properties lowers the cost per job. The survey and the fixed written quote are free.
Is it worth it for a single job?
It can be, but grouping rooms, units or neighbouring properties makes it better value. Tell us what else is nearby, and we will plan the visit so the journey is worthwhile.
Can film help a holiday let?
Yes. UV protection for contents, security film on doors and frosted or blackout film for guests. Holiday lets stand empty for much of the year, and film protects them while they do.
Do I need consent in the Lake District?
Not always for film on the inside, but a reflective finish may. A near-clear film changes the look far less. The safest approach is to ask the council before you book, particularly for a reflective finish or a listed building. Interior film is reversible, and a near-clear film is much less likely to raise an objection, so we usually suggest samples of those first.
What does it cost?
Entry-level film starts at about £60 per square metre, Solar Gard at £95 and 3M at £300, plus travel. See our window film prices. The final figure depends on the glass area, the access needed and the film you choose, and we fix it in writing after a free survey, so there are no surprises.
Have you done work in Cumbria?
Not yet published. The table above shows the closest comparable jobs. We have filmed barn conversions, hillside lodges and holiday-style properties elsewhere in the North West, and we are happy to talk through any of them.
How long does window tinting take?
Most homes and shops are done in a day or less, and larger commercial jobs are planned in stages around your hours. Tall mill and industrial windows take longer because each floor is reached by tower or platform. We confirm the time in the quote.
Why use a specialist window film fitter?
Window film is a specialist trade. Film cut to the pane and applied wet in a clean way has no bubbles, creases or gaps and is warranted, whereas a poor DIY job is hard to remove. Our fitters are employed by us, and insured, and fit film every day.
Is there a warranty on window film?
Most films we fit carry a manufacturer-backed warranty of 10 years or more, and entry-level films carry a 10-year warranty. Exposed hillside sites see harsh weather, but film is on the inside of the glass and is not touched by it. We hand over the paperwork when the job is finished. Solar Gard in particular often outlasts its warranty.
