Window Film Removal and Replacement Across the North West
Window film does not last for ever. Old film bubbles, turns purple, peels at the edges, goes hazy or simply stops doing its job. We remove it cleanly, deal with the adhesive left behind, check the glass and, if you want, fit new film in the same visit.
We remove film from homes, conservatories, offices and shops across the North West, including film fitted by other people. We bring window film removal and replacement to Manchester, Salford and the rest of Greater Manchester, Chester and Cheshire, Liverpool and Merseyside, Preston, Lancaster and Lancashire, and Carlisle and Cumbria.

The short answer
Yes, old film can be removed without harming your glass, and the adhesive can be cleaned off. It needs the right method: heat guns and razor blades can crack double glazing and scratch coatings, which is why this job is worth having done properly.
Signs your film has failed
Bubbles and blisters
Air or moisture has got under the film, usually because the adhesive has failed.
Purple or brown colour
Dyed film has faded. It looks poor and no longer cuts heat as it should.
Peeling edges
The film is lifting at the corners or along the frame. Once it starts, it keeps going.
Haze or cloudiness
The film has aged or been cleaned with the wrong products.
Scratches and cracks
The film has been damaged and the surface no longer clear.
Heat and glare are back
The film has stopped doing its job. See solar control window film.
How we remove it
Protect
Floors, frames and furniture are covered, so water and adhesive do not spread.
Soften
The adhesive is loosened with steam or a soapy solution. We avoid dry heat on double glazing.
Peel
The film is lifted off, ideally in one piece, working slowly to avoid scratching the glass.
Clean
Remaining adhesive is removed with the right solvents and the glass is polished.
Inspect
We check the glass and seals, and tell you if there is damage that was hiding under the film.
Why not do it yourself?
Removing film looks easy until you start. It is slow, wet and tedious, and it is surprisingly easy to cause damage.
- Heat guns: can crack double glazing and damage the sealed unit.
- Razor blades and scrapers: scratch the glass, and ruin low-e coatings if there is one on the surface.
- Sticky residue: spreads easily, and strong cleaners can damage uPVC frames and seals.
- Glazing bars and tight corners: make a clean finish hard to achieve.
We do this daily, with the right tools and cleaners, and we tell you what we find.

Remove, replace or leave?
| Situation | What we would advise |
|---|---|
| Film is dirty but intact | Clean it carefully. No need to remove |
| Film is purple, bubbled or peeling | Remove and replace. It has failed |
| New film has bubbles or looks wrong | Check the warranty with the installer first |
| Old film fitted to the wrong glass | Remove and choose a film suited to the glass. See solar control film |
| Shop graphics or branding to be changed | Remove cleanly and fit new. See branded window film |
| Glass underneath is cracked or damaged | Needs a glazier, not film. We will say so |
Replacing it with the right film
Often the old film was the wrong choice to begin with: a dark film on a large pane of double glazing, or a reflective film where the owner wanted frosted. Removal is a good moment to start again, with a film chosen for the glass and the problem.
See our guides to solar control, privacy, frosted and security film, or tell us what went wrong and we will recommend something.
Finished work

Window film removal questions
Can you remove film you did not fit?
Yes. We remove old film whoever fitted it, and tell you what we find on the glass underneath.
Will it damage my windows?
Not when it is done properly. The risks come from heat guns, blades and harsh solvents, which we avoid. If the glass is already damaged under the film, we will tell you.
Can the glue always be removed completely?
Usually. Very old or baked-on adhesive can take more time, and occasionally leaves a faint ghost on the glass. We will tell you if that is likely.
How much does removal cost?
It depends on the type and age of the film, how much glass there is and how accessible it is. Send us photos and we will quote.
How long does it take?
Small jobs take an hour or two. A whole house, conservatory or shopfront can take a day or more.
Can I have new film fitted at the same time?
Yes. Most customers do. We remove the old film, clean the glass and fit the new film in the same visit.
Do you remove window film across the North West?
Yes. We remove old, failed or unwanted window film in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, Lancashire and Cumbria, including around Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, Chester, Preston, Lancaster and Carlisle. That includes film fitted by other people. We clean the glass, deal with any adhesive and can fit new film in the same visit.
