Classrooms in the sun
A classroom with sun on the whiteboard and heat in the room is hard to teach in. This school has two kinds of building: a modern extension with grid-pattern glazing beside the entrance, and a Victorian classroom with tall arched windows.
Glare on screens and heat in the afternoon affect concentration, and for a school, blinds have their own cost and upkeep.
Solar film across both buildings
We fitted a reflective solar film to the windows of both. On the modern extension it is mirror-like in two of the photos and lets the classroom show through in the third. In the Victorian room it cuts the sun without removing the daylight.
The dark panels on the lower windows of the Victorian classroom are roller blinds, not film.
After
AfterScaffold tower in a classroom
The Victorian windows are high, so we used a scaffold tower inside the classroom, as the photos show. Two of the shots catch the work in progress: first half, then a third of an arched window filmed, with the playground visible beyond.
That is the kind of job where being DBS checked matters. Our fitters are, and they are employed by us, not subcontracted.
- Arched window: filmed from the tower, a section at a time.
- Fire-exit windows: tall multi-pane glass above the doors.
- Sash windows: the tall windows on the classroom wall, each filmed pane by pane.
- Extension: grid glazing, top-opening windows and a glazed door.

The completed photos show the high arched window evenly tinted, with the tower and ladder still in place for the last shot. In the extension, the glazing looks neat and uniform.
The classrooms stay bright, with less glare and heat from the glass.

Are your fitters DBS checked?
Yes. Our fitters are employed by us and DBS checked, which a school will want.
Can you work during holidays?
Yes. We plan around the school's calendar, and we also fit evenings and weekends.
Can film go on glass in fire doors and exits?
Fire-rated glass is tested as a complete unit, so we check the glass specification before filming any pane in a fire door or screen.
