Consulting rooms on a main road
A surgery in a converted house has an unusual problem: the rooms were designed as living space, with big bay windows facing the road, and now they are used for consultations and waiting. A patient in one of those rooms is on view to anyone passing.
Staff in the front rooms also have the glare of a sunny road to contend with.
Reflective film on the front glazing
We fitted reflective solar film to the upstairs and ground-floor bay windows and the other windows at the front. In daylight it turns the glass into a mirror from the road, and from inside, it is clear enough to look out.
Two of the outside photos show the mirror effect strongly. In a third, vertical blinds show through the glass, which is normal for reflective film when the room behind is brightly lit.
Worth knowing: Reflective film is a daytime privacy solution. Where a room needs complete visual privacy at all hours, as in some consulting rooms, we would combine it with frosted film or blinds.
AfterFitting in a working building
A surgery has to carry on while work is going on. Our own fitters are employed by us, not subcontracted, and they are DBS checked, which matters in a building where patients and staff are present. We worked room by room on the bay windows, upstairs and down.
A bay has several panes, each filmed separately, with the film trimmed neatly to the white uPVC frames. The interior photos show the clear view of the road from inside, upstairs and down.
A front that looks like a practice
From the road the building now has a consistent, dark mirrored front. The practice sign stands out in front of it, as one of the photos shows. Inside, the rooms are calmer and more private.
It is a quiet piece of work, and the sort of job where the best result is that no one notices it.

AfterQuestions about film for a GP surgery
Can film be fitted while the surgery is open?
Yes. Fitting is quiet with no fumes, so we can work one room at a time. If you would rather have an empty building, we also fit on evenings and weekends.
Is reflective film enough for consulting rooms?
In daylight it gives a lot of privacy. Where a room needs full privacy at every hour, we combine it with frosted film or blinds.
Are your fitters DBS checked?
Yes. Our fitters are employed by us, and DBS checked, which matters in a building with patients and staff.
