Window Tinting for Windermere and Bowness Homes: Holiday Lets, Second Homes and Lakeside Houses
We provide residential window tinting in Windermere and Bowness: professional window film for houses, bungalows and flats, fitted to the glass you already have. Security film will not stop a determined burglar, but it holds a cracked pane in its frame and turns a quick smash into a slow, noisy job. Fading is mostly an ultraviolet problem, which is why a clear UV protection film protects furnishings without changing the look of the window.
We can often tell you from photos alone whether film will help, and roughly what it would cost. Most of the films we fit are backed by a manufacturer's warranty of ten years or more. We are regularly in Bowness, Troutbeck and Ambleside, and anywhere else in Cumbria.

Homes in Windermere and Bowness: what the glass is like and what helps
Windermere and Bowness have a large number of holiday lets and second homes, and many of the larger houses look at the lake. A holiday let has particular glass needs: guests want privacy and dark bedrooms, and the owner wants the contents protected while the house stands empty.
That combination of UV, security and privacy is where film is at its best.
Holiday lets and second homes: the film we reach for

| Guests want dark bedrooms and privacy | Blackout or frosted film | Works without curtains that may not meet |
| Doors and ground-floor glass on an empty house | Security film | Adds resistance to a quick forced entry. See security film |
| A big lake-facing window | Light neutral solar film | Eases glare and heat and keeps the view |
Planning a visit
Because a visit means travel, the best way to make a job worthwhile is to do several things at once: the bedrooms and the doors, a neighbour's cottage or a few properties on the same road. Tell us what else is nearby, and we will group them. Off-season, when the cottage is empty, is also the easiest time to do the work.

- Holiday lets that stand empty
- Many properties are holiday lets that stand empty for weeks. Clear UV film protects fabrics and floors, and security film adds resistance on doors and ground-floor glass.
- Lakeside houses
- Houses facing the lake get glare off the water and low evening sun. A light neutral film evens it out and keeps the view of the water and the fells.
Pricing a job in Windermere and Bowness
Think of film as a rate per square metre: about £60 for entry-level, about £95 for Solar Gard, fitted. In practice that means a glazed front door and side panels (roughly 2.5 m²) at £150 to £240, a kitchen window (roughly 1.2 m²) at £70 to £115, and the front windows of a typical house (roughly 10 m²) at £600 to £950.
After we have measured and seen how the glass is reached, the price is fixed in writing. A bungalow's big front windows account for most of the figure, and the rest of the house adds little. For a sense of scale, see our Saddleworth job. Rough figures for other jobs are on the window film prices page.
Windermere and Bowness residential window film questions
Is blackout film better than curtains?
It is a single clean layer that cannot be left open. Many owners keep curtains too, but film does the main job without a fitting. Out-of-hours fitting is normal for us, so you do not lose trade or teaching time, and the finished glass is clean and ready for the next working day.
Will UV film protect fabrics?
It slows fading. UV film blocks most ultraviolet light, the biggest cause of fading. Ultraviolet light is the biggest single cause of fading, but visible light and heat contribute too, so film slows fading rather than stopping it. The protection is strongest on rooms with large south or west-facing glass.
Is security film worth it on an empty house?
On doors and ground-floor glass, yes. An empty house is a target, and security film adds resistance to a quick forced entry. Both security and safety film are clear on the glass, are backed by manufacturer test data and sit on the inside, so the building looks the same while the glass becomes much harder to defeat.
Do you offer a free survey in Windermere and Bowness?
A visit to measure up and show samples costs nothing, and you are under no obligation afterwards. For hillside and remote properties, the survey also lets us check access and parking. You get one price in writing that does not change.
Can I fit window film myself?
It is possible, and film is sold for DIY use, but a clean professional finish is hard to achieve at home. Bungalow front windows are large and at eye level, which is exactly where an uneven edge or a crease shows most. Dust, creases and trapped bubbles are the usual faults, and large or high windows make it harder still. We apply film wet, squeegee it flat and trim it neatly, and the work is backed by the manufacturer's warranty.
