Window Tinting for Sale Homes: Conservatory Roofs, Glass Extensions and Garden Rooms
Residential window tinting in Sale is not just about darkening glass. It is about stopping a south-facing room cooking in July, cutting glare on the television and keeping the street from looking in. Roof lantern film deals with overhead glass, which takes the sun all day and is hard to blind.
Film that is chosen for the glass lasts for years, and the maker's warranty is part of the price. Our fitters are employees, not subcontractors, and each one is DBS checked. Our patch includes Sale Moor, Ashton upon Mersey and Brooklands and the wider Greater Manchester area.

Residential window film in Sale: the local picture
If there is one job Sale does more than most places, it is the conservatory. The town is full of 1930s and later houses with conservatories on the back, and many have been there for twenty years, long enough for the owners to know exactly how hot they get. A conservatory that cannot be used between May and September is a room the family has stopped paying for.
This page is about conservatories and glass roofs, because that is what Sale asks us for most, and our Sale job is a glass conservatory roof.
What roof do you have?
The roof decides what film can do, so this is the first thing we check.
| Roof | Can it be filmed? | What we would do |
|---|---|---|
| Glass roof | Yes. This is the commonest conservatory film job | Solar film on the underside of each panel, plus walls and doors |
| Polycarbonate roof | With care. Plastic flexes with heat, and some films are not suitable | Check first and say honestly if film is not the answer. Walls and doors can still be done |
| Solid or tiled roof | The roof is not the problem | Film the side glazing and doors, where the low sun comes in |
| Glass roof with a lantern | Yes | Film every pane. See roof lantern and skylight film |
The Sale conservatory roof
Our Sale job is a conservatory with a black-framed glass roof, with a chandelier hanging under it and a room that was too hot and too bright to use in summer. We filmed the roof panels from inside with reflective solar control film. The close-up shows the finished edge at the ridge, where the trim lines have to match across panels.
The chandelier and the black frame look exactly as they did before. The difference is in the glass above them. The detail is on the Sale job page.

How we film a conservatory roof from inside
Check the roof and the glass
Glass or polycarbonate, how big the panels are, and whether any are in shade. These decide the film.
Clean every panel
Roof glass collects dust and spiders. Each panel is cleaned and checked before the film goes near it.
Cut and apply, ridge to eaves
Each panel's film is cut to size and applied wet from the ridge down, so the trim lines match across the roof.
Walls and doors
The side glazing and doors get the same film, so the whole room matches. Evening blinds are still worth having.

- Conservatories from the 1990s
- Sale has hundreds of conservatories that went on in the 1990s and 2000s. Many have solid or tiled roofs, which means the sun comes through the walls and doors, so the first question we ask is what the roof is made of before choosing where film goes.
- Semis on the Washway Road side
- Interwar semis near the main roads have front bays on busy routes. Mirror film on the bay gives daytime privacy and cuts glare from low sun, while the back of the house wants a lighter film for the extension.
Costs for window tinting in Sale
You pay for the glass area, not for the visit: from about £60 per square metre for entry-level film and £95 for Solar Gard, fitted. Take a roof lantern: at about 5 m² that is £300 to £475. A bay window is closer to 3.5 m², so £210 to £330, and a garden office at about 8 m² runs from £480 to £760.
Glass roofs and conservatories are the biggest jobs in a home, because every panel needs preparing and filming separately. We survey for free and put a single price in writing afterwards. Sale residential window film questions
Will film make my conservatory cooler?
Yes, noticeably. The amount depends on the film and the roof, and a glass roof gains more than a tiled one, because the sun comes through the roof as well. We bring samples to hold against your glass and explain the difference in performance.
Can you film a polycarbonate roof?
Sometimes. We check the roof first and say honestly if film is not suitable. Plastic flexes with heat and some films are not suitable on it, so the walls and doors may be the right place to start.
Will film affect my roof warranty?
It can. Check with the roof supplier, and we can provide the film's technical data to help. Some manufacturers have conditions about film, so it is better to ask before the work than afterwards.
Will my conservatory be dark?
A little less bright, which is much of the point. It is still a light room. A light or neutral solar film does not make a room dark. It takes heat and glare out while keeping most of the daylight, and we hold samples against your own window so you can judge the brightness before you choose. Darker films give more privacy and heat rejection at the cost of light.
Can I still see out of tinted windows in Sale?
In daylight, almost always. On hillsides and moor edges the view is why people live there, so we favour films that keep it natural. Light, reflective and one-way films keep a clear view out, whereas frosted film blurs both ways. If evening privacy matters, plan on a blind or frosted film as well.
Do you offer a free survey in Sale?
A visit to measure up and show samples costs nothing, and you are under no obligation afterwards. For hillside and remote properties, the survey also lets us check access and parking. You get one price in writing that does not change.
