Window Tinting for Prestwich Homes: Box Bays, Curved Bays and Front Rooms on the Road
If you are looking for residential window tinting in Prestwich, the short version is that we fit thin, clear film to the inside of your windows, doors and conservatory glass, and it deals with heat, glare, fading and privacy. It is applied to the inside of the glass, which keeps the weather off it and the cost well below replacement windows.
We would rather advise on the right film than sell the most expensive one. Warranty is ten years or more on most films, issued by the manufacturer. Whitefield, Radcliffe and Heaton Park and the neighbouring towns are all part of our regular patch.

Residential window film in Prestwich: the local picture
Prestwich's streets are full of 1930s semis and Victorian houses with bay windows, and the bay is where the question usually starts. It is the biggest piece of glass at the front, it faces the road, and it lights the room the family uses most. People want to stop being on show without turning the room into a cave.
This page is about bays: how film is fitted to them, what each film does and the limit you need to know about.
Our Prestwich bay
The Prestwich job is a rosewood uPVC box bay on a front room facing the road. The owners wanted daytime privacy and less glare. We fitted reflective film, which mirrors the front garden in daylight and keeps a clear view out. The full set is on the Prestwich job page.

Bay windows: what the shape changes
| Bay | How film goes on | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Box bay (flat panes) | One piece of film per pane, trimmed to each frame | The simplest. Mirror film on the front panes and the sides matches |
| Bow or curved bay | Each curved pane is cut to its own shape. Gentle curves are fine | See our Failsworth curved-bay job: Failsworth |
| Bay with a window above | Film both, so the front elevation matches | As on our Withington job: Withington |
| Bay with opening side lights | The film stops short of the seals and runners | We trim carefully so the windows still open |
The limit to know about
Mirror film gives privacy by day. After dark with the lights on, it reverses and the room is on show. For a bay in a room you use in the evening, plan blinds or choose frosted film. We say this at every survey.

- Houses along Bury New Road
- Houses on the main road take traffic and low sun straight into front rooms. Mirror film by day gives privacy and a calmer room, and frosted film suits stairs and bathrooms.
- Near Heaton Park and the Clough
- Streets close to the park and Prestwich Clough have leafy outlooks. Light films keep the view and take the glare off rear rooms in the evening.
Pricing a job in Prestwich
Rates start at about £60 per square metre for entry-level film and £95 per square metre for Solar Gard, both supplied and fitted. Some examples: a conservatory, £900 to £1,420 (about 15 m²); a bathroom window, £35 to £55 (about 0.6 m²); a bay window, £210 to £330 (about 3.5 m²).
Glass roofs and conservatories are the biggest jobs in a home, because every panel needs preparing and filming separately. We fix one price in writing after the free survey, so there are no surprises on the day. Have a look at our Failsworth job for a comparison. Prestwich residential window film questions
Can film go on a curved bay?
Yes. Each pane is cut to its shape. Gentle curves are fine, and we check the shape at the survey and say if a very tight curve would limit the film choice.
Will I still see out?
Yes, in daylight. The view out stays, a little toned down. In daylight, yes. The view out stays, a little toned down by a light film and more so by a dark one. We hold samples against your own window so you can choose the balance between view, privacy and heat control.
Will film stop people seeing in at night?
No, not mirror film. Use blinds or frosted film for the evening. The honest limit of mirror film is the evening: with a lit room and a dark street, people outside can see in. Frosted film is the only film that gives privacy at every hour, and many people combine a daytime film with a blind.
How long does a bay take?
Usually under an hour or two. A whole house is done in a day. A typical house takes a day, a bay window an hour or two and a shopfront a morning. Large or tall glass, glass roofs and bigger commercial jobs take longer, and we confirm the time when we quote.
Will window film reduce my energy bills?
Solar control film reduces the heat entering a room, which can reduce the need for fans or air conditioning in summer, and thermal film reflects some heat back in winter. The biggest change is usually in the conservatory, where summer temperatures can be dramatically lower. The effect is real but modest, so we do not promise a saving. The main gains are comfort, less glare and more privacy.
How much does window tinting cost in Prestwich?
Window film is priced by the square metre. Conservatories are the biggest jobs in a home because of the amount of glass, so we quote them separately. From about £60 per square metre for entry-level film, £95 for Solar Gard and £300 for 3M, a pair of French doors starts at roughly £240, £380 or £1,200 depending on the range. We confirm the exact figure in writing after a free survey of your Prestwich home, so there are no surprises.
