Window Tinting for Knutsford Homes: Barn Conversions, Arched Windows and Country Houses
Residential window tinting in Knutsford is not just about darkening glass. It is about stopping a south-facing room cooking in July, cutting glare on the television and keeping the street from looking in. Fading is mostly an ultraviolet problem, which is why a clear UV protection film protects furnishings without changing the look of the window.
Whether it is one bathroom window or the whole house, the approach is the same: measure, choose, fit. We would rather advise on the right film than sell the most expensive one. Mobberley, Tatton and Over Peover and the neighbouring towns are all part of our regular patch.

Knutsford homes: the glass we see and what it needs
Knutsford's surroundings are country houses, converted barns and farmhouses, with windows to match: arched, round, mullioned, double-height. Those shapes are harder than a rectangle and entirely possible.
Our nearest job is a barn-style house in Mobberley, and it is the best example we have of film on shaped glass.
A barn-style house in Mobberley
Our Mobberley job is a barn-style house in a courtyard setting, with arched windows, round and porthole windows, a glazed entrance door and a landing window above, and film on every shape. Cutting a curved pane means templating it, but a film applied wet follows the outline, and the result looks as if the glass was made that way.
Barn conversions are a Knutsford speciality, and the job is a good template for what to expect. See the Mobberley job page.

Costs for window tinting in Knutsford
Film is sold by the square metre and fitted in the same price. Entry-level ranges start at about £60 and Solar Gard at £95. In practice that means a bathroom window (roughly 0.6 m²) at £35 to £55, a pair of French doors (roughly 4 m²) at £240 to £380, and a glazed front door and side panels (roughly 2.5 m²) at £150 to £240.
A rough sum is easy, but the exact figure depends on measurements we take on site. You will have a fixed written price after the survey, and no obligation to go ahead. Have a look at our Mobberley job for a comparison. Our window film prices page goes into more detail and has a calculator.
Knutsford residential window film questions
Can film go on arched and round windows?
Yes. Each pane is cut to its shape. Cutting a curved pane means templating it, but film applied wet follows the outline, and the result looks as if the glass was made that way.
Will film suit a period property?
A near-clear or light neutral film changes the look least. The film is on the inside of the glass, so the frames and the character of the building are untouched, and we say honestly where old glass is better left alone.
Is it safe on old glass?
Usually, with the right film. We check first, because older, thinner glass can be stressed by films that absorb a lot of heat. We choose a film that reflects more than it absorbs and leave stained and leaded glass alone.
Will window film reduce my energy bills?
Solar control film reduces the heat entering a room, which can reduce the need for fans or air conditioning in summer, and thermal film reflects some heat back in winter. On older, single-glazed windows thermal film can help a little in winter too. The effect is real but modest, so we do not promise a saving. The main gains are comfort, less glare and more privacy.
How much does window tinting cost in Knutsford?
It is priced by the square metre of glass, supplied and fitted. Entry-level film starts at about £60, Solar Gard at £95 and premium 3M at £300, and a bathroom window, a bay and a conservatory are very different sums. The free survey gives you one fixed price.
