Window Tinting for Bury Homes: Bay Windows, Barn Conversions and Pennine-Edge Houses
Residential window tinting in Bury is not just about darkening glass. It is about stopping a south-facing room cooking in July, cutting glare on the television and keeping the street from looking in. One-way film gives daytime privacy that does not depend on blinds: from outside the glass looks like a mirror, from inside you still see out. Where the afternoon sun makes a room unusable, solar control film turns back much of the heat before it gets into the room.
If film turns out not to be the answer for your glass, we will say so. Whether it is one bathroom window or the whole house, the approach is the same: measure, choose, fit. Our patch includes Prestwich, Whitefield and Radcliffe and the wider Greater Manchester area.

Homes in Bury: what the glass is like and what helps
Bury's homes run from Victorian bays on the main road through Prestwich to stone barn conversions on the edge of the Pennines near Ramsbottom. The glass in the first looks onto the street. The glass in the second looks onto the moor, and in the case of a double-height entrance screen, onto the whole of the hall.
We fit window film for both, and the two jobs we have published here show how different the brief can be.
A bay window in Prestwich
Prestwich's bay windows face the road, so the front room is on show to everyone who passes. The owners of one rosewood uPVC box bay wanted daytime privacy and less glare. We fitted reflective film, which mirrors the front garden in daylight and keeps the view out.
As always, the mirror reverses after dark with the lights on, and we said so. The job is on the Prestwich job page, and our one-way mirror film page explains the limit in detail.

A barn conversion in Ramsbottom
Our Ramsbottom job was a barn conversion with a double-height glazed entrance screen around the front door, in oak-effect frames. Hall and staircase were full of heat and glare, and nothing could be hung across the glass without losing the point of it.
We fitted a solar control film with a reflective finish. The heat and glare came down, the staircase stayed visible through the glass, and UV, the thing that fades staircases and floors, was cut. The detail is on the Ramsbottom job page.

Bury residential window film questions
Can film go on a double-height entrance screen?
Yes. We film tall panes in full-height lengths using a tower or platform, so there are no horizontal joins. Tall glazed screens are filmed in full-height lengths from a tower or platform, so there are no horizontal joins across the middle of the glass. It makes the biggest difference to heat and glare in the hall and on the stairs.
Will film protect my staircase and floors from fading?
It slows it. Most solar films block up to 99% of UV. Most solar films block up to 99% of UV, the biggest cause of fading, so a staircase under a tall glazed screen benefits a great deal. Film slows fading rather than stopping it, and it also cuts heat and glare on the stairs.
Is a barn conversion treated differently?
Often, because the glass is large and the building matters to its owners. We choose a film that suits the glass and the look, test samples against the real windows and plan access carefully, since big screens and gable windows usually need a tower.
Can I stop passers-by seeing into my bay window?
In daylight, with one-way film. For the evening, use blinds or frosted film. In daylight, one-way film does it while keeping the view out. For the evening, blinds or frosted film are the answer, because mirror film reverses once the room is lit. Many people use film for the day and a light blind for the evening.
How much does window tinting cost in Bury?
Residential window film in Bury typically starts at about £60 per square metre for entry-level film, £95 for Solar Gard and £300 for 3M, supplied and fitted. A shopfront in Bury is usually a few hundred pounds, depending on the size of the glass and the film. A small bathroom window costs a few tens of pounds, a bay window a few hundred and a whole house more, depending on the film. We give one fixed price in writing after a free survey.
How long does it take to tint the windows of a house in Bury?
Most homes are finished in a single day. A shopfront in Bury is usually finished in a morning, before the doors open. We clean, measure, cut and fit each pane in turn, so the work is tidy and the glass is ready to look at straight away. Bigger jobs, such as a conservatory roof or a run of tall windows, may need a second day, and we say so in the quote.
Will window film damage my double glazing?
Correctly chosen film does not damage double glazing. The risk comes from using a film that absorbs a lot of heat on a large pane in strong sun, which can stress the glass. We check the glass type, size and shade at the survey and choose a film that reflects more and absorbs less where there is a risk. If your window supplier has conditions about film, we provide the technical data.
