Window Tinting for Alderley Edge Homes: Front Doors, Glazed Entrances and Privacy at the Gate
Homeowners ask us for residential window tinting in Alderley Edge when a room is too hot, too bright or too exposed. Film is fitted to the inside of existing windows, which makes it quicker and cheaper than replacing glass. Frosted film gives the look of etched glass at a fraction of the cost, and it can be taken off again later. On ground-floor doors and glazed entrances, security film is a quiet layer of protection that nobody sees.
Whether it is one bathroom window or the whole house, the approach is the same: measure, choose, fit. Prices start at around £60 per square metre for entry-level film, with Solar Gard from £95 and 3M from £300; the survey tells you exactly where your job falls. From Wilmslow, Prestbury and Chelford out to the edges of Cheshire, the process is the same.

Residential window film in Alderley Edge: the local picture
Alderley Edge has large houses behind gates, and the glass that matters most to the people in them is often at the front door: tall side panels, top lights and glazed entrances that light the hall and show it to the drive. It is a quieter brief than a patio door, and it is the one our Alderley Edge job answers.
Entrance glazing is also close to the lock, which is why it comes up in security conversations too.
Frosted film on a front door
Our Alderley Edge job is two tall glass panels either side of a solid grey front door on a rendered detached house, frosted so the hall is no longer on show from the drive. The panels still let light into the hall, and the door and the render are untouched.
The same logic applies to a glazed front door or a top light: one film across the whole entrance, so it matches. The detail is on the Alderley Edge job page, and the options are on our frosted film page.

Entrances and large-house glass
| Glass | Problem | Film |
|---|---|---|
| Front-door side panels and top light | Hall on show to the drive | Frosted film |
| Fully glazed front door | Privacy and glare in the hall | Frosted or one-way film |
| Glass beside the lock | A break-in route | Security film |
| Patio doors at the back | Heat, glare, break-ins | Solar film and security film |

- Villas around the Edge
- Victorian villas near the Edge have deep bays and tall windows facing leafy roads. Near-clear film protects floors and furnishings without changing the look.
- Entrance glass on large houses
- Front-door side panels and glazed halls on large houses are on view from the drive. Frosted film keeps the light and lose the audience, as our Alderley Edge job shows.
Pricing a job in Alderley Edge
Rates start at about £60 per square metre for entry-level film and £95 per square metre for Solar Gard, both supplied and fitted. Here is the sum for three typical jobs. A glazed front door and side panels is worth roughly 2.5 m², so about £150 to £240; a tall stairwell window is roughly 3 m², about £180 to £285; and a kitchen window is roughly 1.2 m², about £70 to £115.
Treat these as signposts: what you are charged depends on how much glass there is, how it is reached and which film you choose. The survey is free and the price you are given afterwards does not move. For more examples, see the window film prices page.
Alderley Edge residential window film questions
Will frosted film make my hall dark?
No. It blocks the view and lets most of the daylight through. Film changes the light, but a light neutral film changes it very little, and most customers say rooms feel calmer rather than darker. We bring several tints to the survey and hold them against your glass at the time of day you use the room.
Can I match a glazed door and its side panels?
Yes. One film across the whole entrance looks designed and consistent. We film the door, the side panels and the top light with the same film so the entrance matches.
Is security film worth it on a large house?
On patio doors and glazed entrances, yes. On patio doors, French doors and glazed side entrances, yes. It holds a cracked pane in its frame, and it is clear. Large houses tend to have a lot of ground-floor glass, so it is a sensible, discreet layer of protection.
How long does it take to tint the windows of a house in Alderley Edge?
Most homes are finished in a single day. We clean, measure, cut and fit each pane in turn, so the work is tidy and the glass is ready to look at straight away. Bigger jobs, such as a conservatory roof or a run of tall windows, may need a second day, and we say so in the quote.
Will window film damage my double glazing?
Film does not harm suitable glass. The thing to avoid is a heat-absorbing film on a large, sealed or partly shaded pane. We assess every window before recommending a film, and if your glazing supplier has conditions, we provide the technical data.
