A lot of garden-facing glass
Three-panel sliding doors are the main feature of the back of this extension. They open the room to the garden, and they also make the room visible from the garden.
In the daytime, anyone in the garden or a neighbouring garden can see in, and the sun on the glass adds to the heat and glare.
Mirror from outside, clear from inside
We fitted a one-way privacy film to all three panels. The exterior photo shows the garden reflected back, and the two interior shots show what it is like from the room: the garden visible, a slightly tinted view and some reflection of the room in the glass.
That reflection is worth being aware of. When the room is brighter than the garden, you see more of yourself in the glass, so the effect is strongest on a bright day.
Worth knowing: If you want to see the garden clearly at all times of day, a lighter film is the better choice. We bring samples so you can compare them on your own doors.
Three big panels
We filmed each panel of the sliding doors separately, making sure the trim along the bottom runner was clean. Large panels mean large sheets, and the main risk is trapped dust, so cleaning is the careful part of the job.
Private patio doors with a view
The doors are tidy and consistent from the garden, and the interior shots show a clear, if slightly softened, view out. It does what a one-way film is supposed to do without drawing attention to itself.
The doors slide as before.

After · InsideQuestions about film on sliding patio doors
Will the doors still slide as before?
Yes. We film the glass and stop clear of the runners and seals.
Why can I see the room reflected in the glass from inside?
When the room is brighter than the garden, the glass reflects it back, as it would with any mirror-effect film. It is most noticeable on bright days, and a lighter film reduces it.
Can I choose how strong the effect is?
Yes. Films come in different strengths. We bring samples, so you can see them against your own doors before choosing.
