Two windows, two different jobs
The front of this house has a tall stairwell window beside the front door and some very large gable windows above. They do not need the same thing.
The stairwell window is a privacy issue: it shows the staircase to anyone on the drive. The gable windows are an environmental one: they face out across the front and collect a lot of sun.
Frosted film for the stairwell and solar film for the rest
On the stairwell window, we frosted the top and bottom panes, so the window reads as a band of frosting at each end with plain dark glass between. You can see it in the close-up photo.
On the large front windows we fitted solar film, which cuts glare and heat at the glass. The wide shots show the finished front of the house with it in place.
AfterFitting two films on one visit
The stairwell window has six panes, each filmed separately so the pattern of frosting is exact. The gable windows are high up and needed access equipment to reach, which is why they are done from inside the house on steps or a platform.
We also noted that the narrow glazing by the front door looks frosted in the photos, which fits the finish used on the stairwell window.
A front that looks planned
From the drive the house now has a clear logic to its glass: frosted where it matters for privacy, tinted where it matters for the sun. The brick and stone surrounds frame it well.
It is a good example of how a mixed-film job can look better than a single film applied to every window.
After
AfterQuestions about using two films on one house
Can you mix films on the same house?
Yes, and often we should. A stairwell needs privacy and a large gable window needs sun control, and one film cannot do both properly. We quote the mix as one job.
Will the windows look mismatched?
Not if the films are chosen with the elevation in mind. We hold samples against the house so you can see how they sit together.
How high up can you film?
Tall stairwell and gable windows are done from inside using steps or a platform. We tell you at the survey how we would reach each one.

Different windows, different problems?
We can use more than one film on the same house and quote them together. Tell us what bothers you about each window.
