What the hallway looked like from the street
The door itself has patterned glass, which was already doing its job. The two side panels and the top light above were another matter: clear glass, giving a direct view from the front step along the hall.
The two before photos show it from both sides. From inside, you see the front step and path through plain glass. From outside, the hall is visible.
Before · Inside
BeforeFrosting the clear glass and leaving the original alone
We frosted only the clear panels, the two sides and the top light. The patterned glass in the door was left exactly as it was, so the new film sits alongside the old glass and does not try to match or replace it.
Frosted film also works at night, which was part of the point: it needs no blind and no drawing of curtains.
From wet film to a trimmed finish
The progress photo is a useful one to look at. It shows the film freshly applied to a side panel, still wet and untrimmed, with the excess film overhanging the edge.
- Step one: clean the glass, because frosted film shows every speck.
- Step two: apply the film wet so it can be slid into place.
- Step three: squeegee out the water from the centre outwards.
- Step four: trim the film to the edge of the glass with a sharp blade, which is the part the photo shows is still to be done.
In progress · InsideA hallway that is private and still bright
The finished photos show frosted film on both side panels and the top light, with the patterned door in the middle. From inside, it looks like a single, consistent glazed screen, and daylight comes through it.
It is a good example of a small job that changes how a house feels.
After · InsideQuestions about frosting a door surround
Does frosted film leave the existing door glass alone?
Yes. We film only the panels you choose. Patterned glass in the door can stay as it is.
What does the wet film in the progress photo mean?
Film is applied wet so that it can be slid into place and squeegeed flat. It looks cloudy while the water is still under it and clears over a few weeks.
How long does a door surround take?
It is a small job with a few panels. We tell you the time when we quote.
