An all-glass wall in a working office
Glass partitions look good and let light travel through an office. They also give no privacy at all, and they are a known hazard for people who do not notice they are there.
This one is a black-framed partition with a glazed door, with a stock area behind it.
A frosted band rather than frosting everything
We fitted a band of frosted film across the middle of the glazing. It covers the area from about seated to standing eye level and leaves the glass above and below clear, so the daylight carries on moving through.
A band also acts as a marker on the glass, so people notice it is there.
Both sides of the partition
The partition has two faces, and a frosted band has to line up along its whole length and across the door. We marked a level line, applied the film in a single strip along each section and trimmed it along the black frames.
The two photos, taken from either side, show the band running consistently across both the partition and the door.
A partition that does what a wall would
People in the office can no longer be seen at a glance from the other side, and the glass above the band still passes light. It is neat, and the black frames sit well with it.
After · InsideQuestions about frosted bands on glass partitions
Why a band instead of frosting the whole pane?
A band gives privacy at eye level while letting light through above and below. It is also a visible marker on the glass.
Are glass partitions required to be marked?
Large areas of glazing in workplaces and public buildings are normally expected to be marked so people can see them. A band or dots is the usual way. We can advise, but your building manager has the final say.
Can you match a company brand?
Yes. Bands can be cut to a height, a pattern or a logo.
