A sunroom with a solid roof is still a hot room
People assume a tiled roof solves the heat problem. It helps a lot, but a conservatory with a solid roof is still glazed on the walls, and low sun comes straight in through the French doors and side windows.
That is the situation here: a sunroom with a roof that keeps the sky out, and walls that let the sun in sideways.
Film on the walls and the top lights
We filmed all the glazing in the room: the windows and their top lights, the French doors and the side windows. The reflective finish shows the fence and garden in the glass from outside, and it reduces the heat and glare that get in.
The tiled roof means the film does not have to work as hard as it would under a glass roof, so the room can feel properly different.
Leaving the vents to work
The top lights are small opening windows set high on the frame, and they are there for ventilation. We filmed the glass without catching the hinges and seals, so they still open and close as before. That sort of detail is easy to get wrong if the film is trimmed carelessly.
The French doors have glass in both leaves and a window either side, so we cut and fitted each pane separately for an even finish.
A sunroom people use more
From the garden the white uPVC frames now surround mirror glass. In the wide photo the whole conservatory is visible with the tiled roof above it, and the fence and the garden are reflected in the doors.
Inside, the room has less glare and less heat at the glass.

AfterQuestions about tinting a bungalow conservatory
My conservatory has a solid roof. Will film still help?
Yes. A tiled roof stops the sun coming from above, but low sun still comes in through the walls and doors. Film on the side glazing takes that down.
Will the top lights still open?
Yes. We film the glass and keep clear of the hinges and seals, so ventilation works as before.
How much cooler will the room be?
It depends on the film and which way the glass faces. The best way to judge is a sample held against your own glass on a sunny day. We bring them to the survey.
